The Applications and Research Laboratory (ARL), a Centralized Career Academy High School, is partnering with Rebuilding Together Howard County to provide service opportunities for HCPSS students while improving the lives of Howard County homeowners in need of housing repairs. The partnership will be formalized with an official partnership signing on Tuesday, June 14 at 8:00am at the Applications and Research Laboratory, 10920 Clarksville Pike.
Under the terms of the agreement, Rebuilding Together and ARL staff will collaborate to conduct a Rebuilding Day event on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service each January that draws on the skills and knowledge being taught by ARL Career Academies. During the Day of Service, ARL staff and student volunteers from a cross section of Career Academies will provide home repairs for a Howard County homeowner. Aligned with Vision 2018, this partnership provides learning experiences that span multiple subject areas and solve real-world problems.
HCPSS Applications and Research Laboratory Administrator Rick Robb, Academy of Finance Teacher Maddy Halbach and Construction Management Academy Teacher Robert Leiby will join Rebuilding Together Howard County Executive Director Ann Heavner and Board Members to sign the formal partnership agreement at the June 14 event.
Rebuilding Together Howard County was formed in 1992 to mobilize volunteers and provide free home repairs to low-income families in Howard County. The non-profit organization is committed to improving the lives of the elderly, individuals with disabilities, veterans and families with children; all homeowners in Howard County who have worked hard, but can no longer afford to keep up with repairs.
Howard County Public School System’s Centralized Career Academy programs at the Applications and Research Laboratory offer unique content areas with many opportunities for internships and real world experiences that prepare students for college and career.
The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office unites businesses and community organizations with schools to enhance the educational experience. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
