What is a RTHC Work Day?

A work day is a volunteer opportunity for your group (typically 15-20 people) to get involved with Rebuilding Together Howard County and directly impact the lives of our neighbors in need. We work with your organization to gauge the size and skill-level of your team in order to pick a project. A project is selected from our pool of applicants and we schedule your work day. Oftentimes, corporate sponsors participate in Rebuilding Day, a national rebuild effort on the last Saturday in April, but an alternate date can be arranged.

Preparing for Work Day

Prior to your work day, RTHC staff will help you prepare to have a successful team building experience. First, assign a ‘House Captain’ from your organization to be the main point of contact for the work day. The House Captain will work with RTHC staff to evaluate the tasks for work day, organize volunteers, and order materials. RTHC staff can also help with a project safety presentation to share with your volunteers.

Work Day

Work days typically last from around 9:00am – 3:00pm, depending on the scope of the project. Breakfast and lunch are not provided during a work day, but can be arranged. We recommend bringing coolers with ice and cases of water for your team.

Your team will meet at the project location and the House Captain will brief the volunteers on a plan for the day. Then the fun begins! We recommend planning times for breaks and lunch throughout the day.
